Fast & Furious 7 gets a new release date

Following the tragic death of franchise star Paul Walker, it’s been a bumpy road for the latest Fast and Furious movie. There have been major script overhauls and key scene reshoots using Walker’s brothers, Cody and Caleb. There was even heavy talk about scrapping the movie and restarting from square one.

According to Variety, Universal has finally figured out what the hell to do with Fast 7. Filming has officially concluded. We even have a release date now: April 3rd, 2015.

Will all of this actually pay off? I love the later Fast films, but even I’m not sure at this point. Part of the fun of this franchise is how fun loving and relatively carefree they’ve been. The overwhelming feeling of tragedy is hanging off Fast 7 like an albatross.

To boot, by moving this date forward, it lets Universal move it out of competition with other projected 2015 blockbusters, including The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Mad Max: Fury Road. That doesn’t exactly spell confidence.

I’m actually very worried about this one. What do you guys think?
