Superman Lives: We didn’t deserve a Nic Cage Superman movie

We almost had a Superman movie starring Nicholas Cage. Just so we’re on the same page here, Cage would have been playing “Superman,” the title character. This was “mullet-era” Superman, too. There was going to be a Batman cameo, a giant spider and a light-up Superman costume. It would have been wonderful, but alas, it is dead.

The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? is a fan-made documentary that pulls back the curtain on this doomed and bizarre near-film. Here is the trailer. It includes test footage of a be-mulleted Cage flying around in-costume:

Superman Lives was a real movie that almost happened. Unfortunately, after spending years in development hell, it was cancelled. The legend of this preposterous movie has lived on through stories from Kevin Smith, one of Superman Lives‘ several would-be screenplay writers.

The squandered potential of that is killing me.

The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? is nearly complete. The producers are trying to raise an additional $85,000 to wrap it up. Toss them some cash, if you’re so inclined.
