Trailer: Inherent Vice THE MOVIE

We’re finally getting a look at Paul Thomas Anderson’s much-anticipated adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s famously complicated novel, Inherent Vice.

Set in Los Angeles during the early Seventies, Inherent Vice is an absurdist take on a gritty detective story. The film seems like a Phillip Marlowe tale by way of Boogie Nights. I wouldn’t doubt that the final film turns out to be much darker than the tone of this trailer. Either way, it certainly looks compelling.

The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as drug-fueled private detective Larry “Doc” Sportello. Doc is investigating the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend. Along the way, he runs into  Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Reese Witherspoon, Martin Short, Maya Rudolph and Benicio del Toro.
